It's important to know what a cavity is and how to prevent getting one because they are a common problem and can cause some significant issues if not treated. What Is A Cavity?Cavities are a very common problem and can happen to anyone with teeth. Cavities, caused by plaque that develops into tooth decay, are the tiny holes that develop from permanent damage to the surface of the teeth. They get larger if not treated and can affect the layers of the teeth beneath the surface. Without treatment, you might experience tooth pain, get an infection, or end up losing the tooth. Cavities can be caused by not cleaning your teeth well, bacteria, snacking often, and drinking sugary drinks. What Are The Symptoms Of A Cavity?Symptoms you might experience with a cavity include: sensitivity in your tooth, especially to temperature; pain when drinking or eating something sweet; pain when chewing or biting down; spots on the surface of the tooth; visible holes in the tooth; bleeding gums; bad taste in the mouth and/or bad breath; and toothache (pain that occurs seemingly without cause).
