What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a dental restoration that contains the needed number of artificial teeth to rebuild your smile. This is a great solution for anyone who is missing one or several consecutive teeth to eliminate the gap. It’s capped at both ends with a dental crown which will cover either your natural pearly whites or dental implants to anchor it in place.

It’s incredibly durable and can be customized to match the hue of your natural teeth so no one can tell it’s there.

Types of Dental Bridges

Before we can fit you with a dental bridge, you must first have a consultation appointment with one of our skilled dentists. They’ll examine your mouth and recommend an appropriate treatment based on your current dental condition. The two options are:

Traditional Dental Bridge

This type is the standard method and requires that you have healthy teeth on either side of the space in your smile. Your dentist will remove a layer of enamel from these so that the dental crowns on each end of your bridge can fit over them to be bonded in place. This layer doesn’t grow back so results in a permanent change to your pearly whites. That means if your remaining teeth are overly damaged or decayed, this may not be the right fit for you.

Implant Bridge

This kind of restoration involves placing dental implants into your jaw to hold the dental bridge in place instead of natural teeth on either side. That means you’ll have a surgical procedure to insert the support rods followed by a 3 to 6-month recovery period to allow them to fuse with your jawbone. Once your mouth has healed sufficiently then we can proceed with placing your dental bridge.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge

There are many advantages to getting a dental bridge in Dublin, including:

  • Increased confidence. You’ll look and feel your best when there’s no longer a large gap in your mouth that impacts your appearance as well as your ability to talk and chew.
  • Natural appearance. Your restoration is customized to look as lifelike as possible so you don’t have to worry that others will notice it.
  • Durable material. Typically made of porcelain or composite resin, your dental bridge can last 15+ years if cared for properly.
  • Simple maintenance. All you have to do to keep it clean is brush and floss twice daily like usual.
  • Prevent potential harm. Your remaining teeth naturally try to shift to fill in empty spaces which can lead to uneven wear and tear. Your dental bridge keeps everything in place so that it won’t be damaged.
